STANLEY S. BALON, SR

Stanley S. Balon Sr., 88, of Throop, Pa, passed away Monday May 7, 2007 at Moses Taylor Hospital after an illness.

He and his wife, Josephine Balon, celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on Jan 31, 2007.

Born in Dickson City, son of the late Stanley and Sophie Sobel Balon, he lived in Throop all of his life. He was educated in Throop schools and worked for Pennsylvania Coal Co. for most of his working life. Before retirement, he was employed by Sugarman's Eynon Drug Store. He was a member of St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City. He was a 57 year member of Throop Hose Company 1 and was a steward and secretary/treasurer of the Polish Club.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he loved polkas.

Also surviving are a son, Stanley Balon Jr. and his wife, Michele, Dickson City; four granddaughters, Laura Kanavy, Danielle Garnett, Emily and Rachel Balon; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Mitchell and Julia Kanavy; and Loran and Michael Garnett; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Loraine Bevlock, four sisters and four brothers.

The funeral will be Wednesday with a Mass at 9:30a.m. in St. Mary's Visitation Church. Entombment, St. Mary's Mausoleum. At the family's request, there will be no public viewing or calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Throop Hose Company 1.
